How to Plan Your Beach Wedding in Southern California
Beach weddings in Southern California are remarkably laid-back, fun, and can be very affordable.
Combine cuisine, arts, history, atmosphere, and all of the fantastic charm found along the California coast in a romantic destination wedding celebration. Stunning beaches provide the perfect picturesque backdrop for a ceremony overlooking the sparkling Pacific.
Even though the most popular image of a beach wedding that many couples have seems to be mainly white sand, turquoise water, and towering palm trees, they imagine that those locations are only available in Hawaii,the Caribbean, or other tropical locations. Actually, there are many beach wedding locations in Southern California that offer the same idyllic settings.

In considering which of hundreds of potential beaches to site your wedding ceremony, keep in mind the nearest airports, accommodations and “civilization” (caterers, wedding cake bakers, musicians, photographers, and restaurants to provide for your guests before and after the wedding itself). Also, think about whether it is important to be on the beach at particular times of the day (such as sunset) and where the sun is likely to be at that time.
Huge beach houses can often be rented more affordably than putting up most people in a resort hotel. They also often offer large decks or entertaining areas that would be great for the rehearsal dinner, the wedding reception, and even the post-wedding breakfast.

BEACH PERMITS: Some municipalities may require you obtain a special permit in order to hold your wedding on their beaches. A few may also ask you to show proof of liability coverage before issuing a permit. The permits are generally very modest in price, but vary widely among communities. |
California has no waiting period between obtaining the license and the wedding, but the license is valid for only 90 days. Since you’ll have plenty to do in the days before The Big Day, it’s a good idea to take care of this about a month beforehand.
Marriage licenses are issued by Clerks in each California county, but the licenses can be used anywhere in the state. The bride and groom must appear in person and present a picture ID (driver’s license,passport). Some counties ask for certified copies of your birth certificates. Know the places of your parents’ birth and your mother’s maiden name. Previously married folks may need to show their final divorce decree. The license fee is $40.00. Some counties accept only cash. The license is only valid for 90 days. No blood test is required. Because waits in some jurisdictions can be hours long, it’s a good idea to call ahead to schedule an appointment. In addition to clergy, a commissioner of civil marriages or a court of record, most judges, California legislator or constitutional officer may perform your ceremony. Each county offers civil ceremonies performed by a judge or commissioner. The cost is approximately $40.00. The officiant will sign your marriage license, which must be sent to the county clerk within 4 days of the marriage for it to be legally recognized. Planning so far in advance for a beach wedding means that you need to equip yourself with facts about the weather (temperature and possibility of precipitation) for the beach location that you have in mind.
Although there certainly are exceptions, when it comes to weather, the past is a pretty good predictor of the future.and it will almost always be better than a wild guess.
